Room 6
Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us. We have enjoyed getting to know them during this first week of school. It has been a busy week. Some of the students have spent time in integration while the rest of us have been working in the classroom. Just a few of the activities we did this week included a school tour, learning some new games in phys-ed and math, and spending time in the maker space being creative.
We are learning to share our space and how to interact with each other in a respectful way. We are beginning to understand that our actions affect others around us and that we need to treat others the way we want them to treat us.
Room 6 and 7 will be walking across our field to our school garden plot next week to see what has grown and to harvest some vegetables. We will send a walking field trip notification home to you ahead of time to let you know when this will be happening.
Have a great weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone again next week.

Room 7
We had a great first week at school! Students from Room 7 worked in their integration classes on some fun and exciting activities. They received instruction in their grade 5/6 classrooms and received support from Mr. David and I. They were able to work in a space of their choice so they could be successful and stay focused. Some of the week's activities included making the tallest tower, playing math games with cards and dice, a backpack art activity, name art, and writing rock, paper, scissors stories. Please visit grade 5/6 class blogs as well to find out more.
In our social skills lessons this week we discussed icebergs and how we can see the top of the iceberg but there is usually a much bigger part hiding under the water that we can't see. The top of our iceberg is the emotions and behaviours we show to the world but the bottom of the iceberg is inside us where our hidden hurts and struggles may lie. Our visible moods and emotions that can be observed by others are often caused by factors that they can't see and don't know. When someone is acting in an unexpected manner we need to remember that there may be things going on in their lives that we don't know about or understand. We need to treat each other with kindness and respect at all times. During our social skills time students were given special fidget tools to take with them to use to help them stay focused.
Grade 5/6's will be going on a field trip on September 17th to Canada Olympic Park. More information will be coming home early next week.

I am so proud of students in Room 7 for the risks they have taken this week. Many friendships are forming and I see them using strategies to regulate their emotions as they move throughout their day. I look forward to a great year together.
