March 13, 2020 This week we have spent some time addressing student concerns about the COVID19 pandemic.  Students have been quite worried and anxious.  We have reminded them that for most people this is a mild flu and that they don't need to be stressed about it.  We have discussed proper hand washing and healthy habits that will help prevent the spread of this virus and other colds and flus.  Please take time this weekend to talk with your children and to ease their anxiety at this very stressful time.  One helpful tool we have been using is talking about what our anxiety tells us vs. what we know to be true. Today room 6 & 7 did a study of the author Barbara Reid.  We read some of her books, watched a video of her teaching us how to make her plasticine illustrations.  We then created our own plasticine illustrations. Next week our CPS Resource Officer, Gemma Baker, will be in to talk to our classes.  She will be discussing Start Smart...
Room 6 & 7 Elder Shirley has been with us at Andrew Sibbald over the past few weeks.  She has taught us many amazing things.  She taught us how to hoop dance and showed us how to make Mother Earth and The Eagle.  She showed us many indigenous artifacts and taught us about the buffalo jump. We got to meet Lemon the bear and see his many outfits. Thank you Elder Shirley! Room 6 This week we went on a community walk with Ms. R and Ms. Carol.  We have been learning about the human body and the organs that make it work.  We have taken many movement breaks and have been working on being able to identify our needs so we can find strategies to help us meet those needs and better regulate ourselves. Room 7 We have identified the four Zones of Regulation and are working on the strategies we can use to help us stay regulated and in the green zone. In Social Studies we have been working on Regions of Canada and are now learning about how the federal govern...

Room 6 & 7 We had a busy week again this week with many exciting things happening in our school.   On Wednesday we all participated in the Terry Fox Run.  Our students did an amazing job walking and running laps around our field.  I'm sure Terry would have been very proud of our kids.  Thank you for all the money that came in to help fund cancer research.  Also, a big thank you to our parents for providing freezies for all of the students after the run.   On Monday, September 30th, Elder Shirley will be coming in to meet with our students.  We have spent time making special wishes for her as we prepared our gift of Tobacco.  Each student took a pinch of tobacco and put it onto a cloth as they made their silent wish.  This was then wrapped up and will be presented to her on Monday.   Last week we made soup and pickles out of the vegetables from our garden.  We can't wait to open up  those jars and try our dil...

Room 6 Thank you for sharing your amazing children with us.  We have enjoyed getting to know them during this first week of school.  It has been a busy week.  Some of the students have spent time in integration while the rest of us have been working in the classroom.  Just a few of the activities we did this week included a school tour, learning some new games in phys-ed and math, and spending time in the maker space being creative. We are learning to share our space and how to interact with each other in a respectful way.  We are beginning to understand that our actions affect others around us and that we need to treat others the way we want them to treat us.  Room 6 and 7 will be walking across our field to our school garden plot next week to see what has grown and to harvest some vegetables.  We will send a walking field trip notification home to you ahead of time to let you know when this will be happening. Have a great weekend.  We ...
