Room 6 & 7

We had a busy week again this week with many exciting things happening in our school.
On Wednesday we all participated in the Terry Fox Run. Our students did an amazing job walking and running laps around our field. I'm sure Terry would have been very proud of our kids. Thank you for all the money that came in to help fund cancer research. Also, a big thank you to our parents for providing freezies for all of the students after the run.
On Monday, September 30th, Elder Shirley will be coming in to meet with our students. We have spent time making special wishes for her as we prepared our gift of Tobacco. Each student took a pinch of tobacco and put it onto a cloth as they made their silent wish. This was then wrapped up and will be presented to her on Monday.
Last week we made soup and pickles out of the vegetables from our garden. We can't wait to open up those jars and try our dill pickles.
Room 6
Students in Room 6 have been working on their math skills this week. They have enjoyed exploring math games on the computers in ABCya. In their writing books, students have worked at writing about areas they would like to improve this year.
Room 7
In science, grade five students have been exploring wetlands in Alberta and grade six students have been learning about coniferous and deciduous trees in Alberta. All students have been creating slide shows about their science topic. These can be viewed in their Google accounts.
During the past few weeks we have been enjoying the nice weather in our learning grounds making observations about Fall. We have taken time to write down things we hear, feel, see, and smell. From these observations, students have been doing some Fall sensory writing focusing on using descriptive vocabulary. You can view this writing in Google docs.
Students have been working on their maps of Canada. They have been learning about the provinces and capital cities.
In social skills, we have been exploring the Zones of Regulation. We have talked about the blue zone, green zone, yellow zone and red zone, and the different emotions that we feel when we are in these zones.
Monday is Orange Shirt Day - Please wear an orange shirt if you can!
